This post documents the flow we observed from ICLT's Feb 20 iftaar to help volunteers and attendees know what to expect. Exact prayer timings may vary based on Ramadan schedule.
1. Timeline/ Flow
6:24 PM: Iftaar: break their fast with appetizers (dates, fruit, samosas)
6:45 PM: Congregational Maghrib prayer begins
6:55 PM: Dinner line open (separate lines for men & women)
7:45 PM: Trash collection & cleanup begins
8.00 PM: Preparation for Prayer/ Wudhu
8:15 PM: Isha and Tarawih begin
2. Setup (before iftaar)
Seating: Set up round tables outdoors where attendees can sit and wait for Maghrib. . Ensure equivalent, separate seating arrangements are prepared for both the men ("Bapak-Bapak") and the women ("Ibu-Ibu")
Bapak-bapak
Ibu-ibu
Beverage Station: Self-service chai tea station (cups, stirrers)
Appetizers (Makanan Pembuka):Pre-place plates of kurma (dates), fruit, and samosas on tables so they’re ready at iftar time.
3. Maghrib transition
Transition to Prayer: After this short, roughly 15-minutes period of eating and socializing, the congregation will transition to perform the Maghrib prayer. Volunteers should pause food movement and keep walkways clear.
4. Dinner service logistics (post-Maghrib)
The distribution of the main meal takes place immediately following the Maghrib prayer.
Queue Management: Organize two distinct serving lines to maintain order and speed: one line for men and one line for women.
Meal Packaging: Meals are held in insulated food boxes to maintain temperature, so they stay warm from pickup through serving.
Today menus have included warm dishes like Chicken Biryani, Goat Curry, and Kadhi Vegetable
.Children's Meals: Have separate, kid-friendly options available, such as pizza
5. Clean-up
Ensuring the area is clear before the evening prayers begin.
Trash Collection: Shortly before the Isha prayer, designated volunteers will walk around the tables with trash bags to collect discarded plates, boxes, and cups. This keeps the outdoor area clean and orderly as attendees transition inside for Tarawih.
6. Transition to Night Prayers
By ~8:00 PM, attendees will start transitioning away from the dining area to perform wudhu and prepare themselves for the night prayers.
Isha and Tarawih: Congregational Isha and Tarawih prayers will officially begin at 8:15 PM.
